It is important to have a good business presentation because a well-crafted, visually appealing business presentation can say that you are professional and value quality. On the contrary, a bad presentation fails to hold your audience’s attention, and can even lead to unfavourable outcomes. A business presentation is often the first document your clients or partners get to see. Over the past four years of leading a team of presentation designers has lead me to develop a framework for effectively briefing presentations to ensure they are impactful.

Overview

Amplify is a communication design framework I built to improve impact through design. The purpose of Amplify is for designers to align with the content owners and understand what impact they would like to have on their audience. Armed with this insight, a designer can focus on narrative and use design best practices to create an effective presentation. It’s done in a three-step process. It all starts with a pre-worksheet to tease out the messaging themes, followed by a one-hour workshop focused on the first draft of content. Once those are complete, the designer can focus on the deck visuals, carefully crafting them with a vision in mind. To date this is my biggest achievement at Salesforce. In its first two quarters Amplify helped our Sales teams close approximately USD$15,000,000 in annual contract value.
